About Maddy
Have you ever sat back and thought, how did I get here?
I do. Frequently.
Over the past 50+ years, I’ve had a career in the corporate financial world, renovated houses, trained as an actress, worked as a voiceover and been involved in the hospitality industry.
But right now, I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Embracing aging well and making a new life out of a yoga practice which has given me so much.
My Yoga Path
I haven’t always been a yogi and admittedly, I came somewhat reluctantly to yoga in my early 40s. Since my 20s, I’d been a dedicated gym bunny, so I wasn’t adverse to physical exercise but yoga had never pictured on my horizons. At the suggestion of a friend, I joined her for some private yoga lessons, and I can honestly say, I’ve never looked back.
Like many, my initial focus on yoga was through the asanas (poses) which I was amazed helped me to increase further flexibility, and develop my overall body strength. I was so enthused that I decided to train to become a yoga teacher with the aim of bringing yoga to my friends and family.
As part of my yoga teacher training, I began to study the history of yoga, how the spiritual body combines with the physical, to support mental health as well as physical health. Since qualifying is 2019, I have fulfilled my aim to teach my family (all 3 of my sons, who are in their 20s) as well as my friends and friends of friends and often, their young adult children, creating a family experience. Many of my clients are new to yoga or ‘rusty yogis’ but in time their practice has developed so that I can no longer call my group classes, yoga for beginners. They have challenged themselves and me, to take their practice to a higher level. I applaud and congratulate them and take pride in their achievements. I regularly introduce new beginner’s classes, as new clients come to me.
Rest and Rehabilitation
Over the past four years I have continued my training, qualifying as a PureStretch trainer in 2022 to support clients through rehab, often bridging the gap between sessions with the physio, and in 2023 as a Yin Yoga teacher, focussing more on the benefits of deep static poses to stretch ligaments and tissues and calm the mind.
I’d be delighted to support you whether it’s starting your yoga journey, maintaining a regular practice or assisting you through rehab. I’ve recently started an online class specifically for ladies recovering from breast cancer. This was set up at the instigation of one of my existing clients who is a physio specialising in this area. On the days, when you just want to find some calm in your busy life, we can relax and breathe together.
